After the Wedding: Philippine Marriage Records for U.S. Use

Keep track of the signed ceremony record, its local registration and the PSA certificate you may need later. They are separate milestones.

Before you leave the ceremony

Review the identifying details on the marriage record and ask how to retain a copy or reference for follow-up. Record the name of the local civil registry office handling registration. If you will return to America first, agree with your spouse who will make the next enquiry.

Follow the document through registration

Ask the registry whether the record has been registered locally and how it is transmitted for PSA processing. A signed document in your possession does not establish that a PSA-issued copy is already available. Keep receipts and transaction details so the relevant office can identify the record.

Match the certificate to the U.S. purpose

A name change, employer benefit application and immigration case are different uses. Ask the receiving U.S. agency which copy, translation or authentication it accepts before ordering multiple documents. A Philippine marriage assistance enquiry does not submit a U.S. immigration application.

Before your next appointment

  • Local registration contact and reference
  • Spouse responsible for follow-up
  • Receiving agency’s document instructions
