Retain a usable record trail
Keep the ceremony details, local registrar contact and any available registration reference. If one spouse returns to Canada while the other remains in the Philippines, decide who will follow up. Write down how messages and reference numbers will be shared without circulating identity documents unnecessarily.
Request the appropriate Philippine record
Ask whether the marriage has reached local registration and whether a PSA copy can be requested. Do not assume a delay means the marriage is absent from the local register. Ask the appropriate office which stage it can verify and what reference it needs.
Check the particular Canadian use
Canada generally recognizes lawful overseas marriages without a separate Canadian registration. A provincial name-record update, an employer benefit and an immigration matter may ask for different evidence. Obtain the recipient’s current written requirements for certificate type, translations or authentication. Keep that task separate from the original Philippine ceremony coordination.
